Oxygen Acetylene Tanks & Fittings

To complete you oxygen acetylene outfit you will need the oxygen acetylene tanks.

In the trade these are called cylinders.  I always refer to them as tanks.

Here is a set of tanks with the regulators, hoses and torch attached. This is a set of mid size tanks.  Not the largest but also not the smallest.

Tanks or cylinders come in different sizes.  Depending on the amount of work you plan to do will determine the size of tanks that you need.

The larger tanks are heavy and can be a chore getting them in and out of the truck.

Of course the larger the tank the less often you have to have it refilled.

Life isn't always fair!  I've been dealing with the same welding company since 1973.  Not once have they offered to take the tanks out of my truck and replace them with filled tanks.  I have to do it myself.

I taught a woman how to do sculpture and introduced her to the people at this welding company.  When she backs her truck up to the dock, they take her tanks out and put the filled tanks back in.

Definitely helps to be a woman when getting your tanks refilled.

Note:  They don't refill the tanks, they just exchange your empties for filled tanks.

When you pick your tanks up at your local welding supply they will come with caps.  Keep the caps on until you have your tanks in place.

You can see the caps on the tanks in the photo below.

The danger here is that there is a tremendous amount of pressure, especially in the oxygen tank.  If it should fall over and break the nozzle off it would fly off like a rocket.

For my shop I prefer to chain my tanks to the wall so they will not fall over.

You can also build a rack to hold them or buy one.  Chaining the tanks to the wall is simple and inexpensive.
