The Oxygen Acetylene Torch Outfit

This is a Victor Performer torch outfit.

I've been using Victor performer torches for years. They has worked well for me and I have seen no reason to change.

There are other reputable torch companies such as The Harris company and the Smith Torch company.

Below is what comes with the outfit:  Torch handle, a welding brazing tip, cutting attachment with cutting tip and the regulators.

Below you can see the hose which connects to the regulators and the torch handle, a pair of welding goggles sparker and a manual

Below are some things you will need that may or may not come with your torch.

The wrench is for attaching the regulators to the oxy/ace tanks and for attaching the hose to the regulators and to the torch handle.

If you have a good set of open end wrenches you may not need this.

Sparker for lighting the torch. Some outfits I've purchased have included a sparker and others have not.

The little blue box on the right is a tip cleaner.  Once in awhile something will lodge in the torch tip and need to be cleaned out.

For brazing I prefer a pair of dark brazing glasses rather than the welding goggles.

Shown is a welding brazing tip but we'll get more into the tips later.

My recommendation is to buy your oxy/ace outfit at your local welding supply company where you will getting your oxy/ace tanks (cylinders).

You can save a few dollars by buying online, but the online company cannot give you the service that you can get from your local dealer.

When I first started in 1967 I had no one to ask.  The outfit was a birthday gift and I didn't even know where the outfit came from.  At the time I was busy with other things and didn't bother about getting advice.

This means that I had a hard go at it with a less than successful trial and error period.

In 1970 I got a job in Mansfield Ohio.  Down the street from my office was a Welding Supply company..  This is where I got my tanks exchanged and they were most helpful in giving me advice.

They are the ones that suggested the Victor torches.  My first torch was much too big for the work that I was trying to do.  The Victor Performer made a big difference in what I was able to accomplish.

In another section you'll see a video on using the carbonizing flame.  This is where that information came from.

Welding companies have acetylene tanks that differ from one company to another.  You may need an adapter to attach your acetylene regulator to the acetylene tank.

If you buy your torch and get your tanks from a local company you can walk out with everything you need.

It can be frustrating to get 90% of what you need and not be able to get to work.

In the end it is your dollars and your choice.

What follows are five short videos which will help you in choosing a torch.
