The American Racer & The Medium Tandem

Building the american racer

As mentioned in the video, the American Racer was the first bike I did back in the late 70's.  It remains as popular today as it did then.  And of course when you make any single frame bicycle you'll get a request for a tandem.

These two bicycles are fairly easy to make and I've included a couple of simple to make tools to make the job easier.

The chain on these bikes really draw the customer attention.  Although it is only a small part of the overall bicycle or tandem, it  enhances the finished piece.

From a business view, these two bicycles are priced so that they are a step up from the Small Table Top Bicycles.

I've found that having different price levels that are stair stepped, from the least expensive to the most expensive offers the consumer a choice, and we all like to have a selection to choose from.

I've noticed that these are most often purchased a gifts for cyclists.  The standing versions go well on a desk or a cabinet.  The wall hanging bikes go well when used as a grouping of other bicycles or cycling prints and photographs.

As stated in the video, today there are lots of frame configuration, so you can choose to construct a frame to your preference.  The techniques are the same.

I've chosen a standard frame and that has worked well for me.  I sell as many of these bicycles as I want to make so there has been no reason to try other frame configurations.

You can easily use the same techniques in the video and build a mountain bike.
