The Henrob 2000 is an oxygen acetylene torch that originated in Australia some years ago and now manufactured in the US. 

This torch has some unique advantages when compared to the traditional oxygen acetylene torch.

But it is not for everyone.  There is definitely a learning curve. 

First off, it doesn't have the same shape as a traditional torch, so it feels somewhat awkward at first..  It takes a bit of getting used to.

It uses less acetylene compared to the traditional torch setup.

You can braze with no flux, although I still prefer to use a little flux when brazing.

As mentioned the torch uses less acetylene yet it has a hotter flame.  It has a much narrower heat spread which is beneficial when brazing or welding thin material. 

The traditional torch has a wide heat spread which causes metals to warp.  After some practice you'll find that there is minimal or no warping when brazing or welding light materials.

For me, I have found it especially helpful when fuse welding hollow ware pieces made up of 3/32nd inch thick mild steel.

But the same can be said of brazing sheets of copper.  Minimal warping! 

The flame pattern is much more concentrated.  All of this is the result of the oxygen acetylene mixing chamber and the specially designed tips.

I've found it excellent for both brazing and welding mild steel and brazing copper and brass.

Brazing Hot Rolled Steel:  For years, when I wanted to braze hot rolled steel I would have to grind down the steel to base metal -  removing the hot rolled steel coating.  But this is not necessary with the Henrob 2000.

The same is true of brazing rusted metal.  In the video there is an example of brazing rusted metal with minimal flux.

What took the most practice for me was fuse welding sheet metal. It was only by trying different torch tips and finding the right position for holding the torch that I was able to achieve the results in this photo.

For gas welding 1/8th inch steel with a gas filler rod, it is excellent!

What this video is about is showing you numerous examples of joining metals together.  Primarily mild steel, copper and a bit on brass and stainless.

However, you can use the Henrob 2000 to make any of the sculptures in the videos series.

I have made my living brazing and welding metal sculpture since 1973 and it took some practice to feel comfortable with this torch.. 

Reading some of the forums - some people think the Henrob 2000 is the greatest thing since sliced bread. 

While others have become frustrated and gone back to their traditional torch.

For those who haven't used a torch before or it has been a long time, there is a short section on lighting the torch and adjusting for a neutral flame.

Will I continue to use the traditional torch?  For doing the Metal Sculpture Instructional Videos - the answer is Yes.  Because most of the people who buy my videos use the traditional torch.

But for doing pieces that are not going to be in videos I will often use the Henrob 2000.  Especially for fuse welding the hollow ware out of 3/32nd inch steel and working with sheet steel and sheet copper.

And there will be times when I pick up whichever torch is handy. 

The bottom line:  The Henrob 2000 is an exceptional piece of equipment, but only for those that are willing to take the time to develop the necessary skills.

Update Note:  Last summer I was mowing the yard and a part broke on my lawn tractor.  What to do?  Call Sears and have them come out for $150.00 and then have to wait till the part came in or roll up my sleeves and make a new part?

Took me about an hour. Most of the hour was spent getting the part off the tractor.

The tricky part was gas welding it.

The Henrob 2000's concentrated flame was a real benefit, it allowed me to weld a specific area on the part without getting much heat on surrounding parts.
