The Road Bike Part 1 & 2

George Goehl's road bike sculpture

The Road Bike:  First off, this is not an introductory piece.  I would not suggest this if you are just starting out. This is one of my best selling bicycles, which means that I have made a lot of these.  No matter, I still find them challenging.

The video assumes that you know how to use your brazing/welding and metal working equipment.

This bicycle is loaded with detail, such as brake levers, water bottle, air pump, shifters, toe clips and a derailleur.

The basic design can be customized to fit your preferences and you can also use the same basic configurations to do a mountain bike.  You'll need to adjust rod sizes and dimensions'.

In this bicycle I use primarily gas welding, although there is a lot of  brazing.

In case you haven't brazed for awhile or are maybe new to gas welding, I've included a short brazing refresher and a bit longer session on gas welding.

As in all my videos you'll see me doing each part of the bicycle.  You can follow this step by step progression right up to the finished piece.

You'll need some extra tools for this piece, so I have showed you how to make them.  Very simple to put together tools and fixtures that will be essential for this bicycle but you'll also find them helpful in other sculptures.

When you finish this bicycle you will have added to your skills which will carry over to other work that you may do in the future.

The cost of the materials for this bicycle are surprisingly minimal.  Most of my selling price is for the work involved.

Because there is so much information I have put this on two DVD's.  I'd suggest watching both DVD's before starting your bicycle.

You'll find some tips and things you'll want to be aware of as put this piece together.

Again, I want to emphasis that this is not a an introductory project.  You'll need to be familiar with your Oxygen Acetylene Torch.

Although there is a brazing refresher and a session on gas welding, although this is not a brazing or welding class.

It will take you some time to finish this piece, but after your first one, the next one will move along much quicker.
