For
over 30 years I have made my living doing metal sculpture and decorative
accessories.
Brazing
lightweight copper, brass, bronze, steel and stainless
steel for metal sculpture.
Easy to Understand Instruction
Day in
and day out I use the oxygen acetylene torch to braze metals together. This is
not a technical discussion on brazing. This video shows you
exactly what I do to braze metals.
Through this video you’ll quickly pick up the skills of brazing.
There is no textbook jargon, just
close up detailed video and commentary in everyday language.
Brazing - Easier than you might think
Brazing puts you in control. You’ve got
an idea, now you have the skills to bring your ideas into reality.
As I
mention elsewhere,
"it just
takes a little practice". Your first attempts may be a bit
awkward, but these are the initial steps that everyone goes through. Keep
in mind that you can't make a mistake that I haven't made.
Step by Step Instruction
In this
video you will see me demonstrating and describing each step of the process.
Starting with lighting the torch, to simple brazes and on to more
complicated brazing such as brazing different thicknesses and different
metals, such as copper to steel.

For lighting
the torch, the steps are repeated so that you have a definite idea of how
it is done. For example, adjusting the acetylene flame before adding the
oxygen. What is the optimal flame for brazing? I show this in detail so
there are no unanswered questions.
Included
is a section on setting your regulator pressure. Also a section on
brazing tip selection and why you'll need several different brazing tips.

There is no
need to make this a struggle. Putting my
30+ years of experience to work for you means that you will not have to go
through the trial and error process that I went through when I first
started.
In addition
I'll show you some special techniques that will speed you on your way.
What I
Wish I Had Known
The whole
idea behind this video is what I'd liked to have known when I started
brazing copper, brass, bronze, steel and stainless steel.

Once
you've learned how to braze your mind will be flooded with ideas of what
you can do with brazing.
You probably
already have those ideas in your mind right now, all that is missing is
knowing how to braze.
Brazing for effect
This video covers more than just
brazing. To be sure, we do want to braze two or more pieces of metal
together. But, the brazed joints become part of the sculpture, part
of the visual appeal. Flowing the bronze so that the brazed portions
present a contrast to the adjoining metals.

As you can see in this small table top
bicycle how much the bronze joints add to the finished piece.
In addition to the video, there are
special hints in the short videos on this web site. Here is an
example of using a carbonizing flame.

Utilitarian uses for Brazing
In addition
you'll find utilitarian uses for brazing. When you know how to braze you
don't have to run out and find someone to fix something for you - you can
do it yourself. This in itself can
quickly pay for an oxygen acetylene setup.

Being able to
join metals together with brazing opens you up to a whole new world of
possibilities.
Running time: 60 minutes.
