Steel Discs

Note - Please Read:

This is not a step by step video as the others in this series.

These pieces are not easy!

There are obstacles that you'll have to work through.

The point is that I don't want someone buying this DVD and getting half way through making a piece and wishing they had never started.

This is an opportunity to showcase your talents.

If you want to enter some fine art shows or do high end arts and crafts festival these piece will fit right in.  They may also get you into higher end galleries.

As mentioned at the first of the video we are only scratching the surface with what can be done with these discs.

The techniques involved are brazing, gas welding, use of the cutting torch, metal forming, building bases and finishing.

There is a considerable amount of fuse welding in making these pieces.  You'll start out by fuse welding with the oxygen acetylene torch.

Next step is on to more fuse welding.

Then it is on to texturing with the cutting torch.

Working with molten metal.

Removing slag and wire brushing are an important part of the finished appearance.  Using the cutting torch you can remove most of the slag and then moving on to wire brushing.

As you can see in the enlarged photos the finished pieces have a deep rich luster. larger photos

I'd suggest working with at least one of the designs in the video and then begin working on your own designs.

As you work through a design you'll begin to have ideas for new designs.

When you are done you can step back and be rightly proud of what you have created.

Bottom line:  This is hot dirty work.  But for me the results are worth all the dirt and sweat!
